Animal Deaths: Since the year's outset, the zoo has reported 18 deaths across various species—spanning from a 6 year-old Eastern black rhino on loan Birmingham Zoo, birds and reptiles. Death are from various causes including chronic diseases like cardiovascular disease, liver disease, and pancreatic insufficiency, as well as reproductive diseases, tumors, and age-related complications.
Animal Transfers: The zoo has engaged in multiple transfers with other institutions. Notable transfers this year total 14 — involving lemurs, conures, ibises, and a variety of other species.
